MC Reads
What is MC Reads?MC Reads is the summer reading initiative for Mill Creek that seeks to incorporate a whole-school approach to reading for pleasure. We want to shift the emphasis of summer reading from a Language Arts assignment to a program that celebrates and encourages life-long reading. Students will have much greater CHOICE in their summer reading book.
How does "MC Reads" work?
Every teacher, counselor, and administrator has chosen a book that he/she will read over the summer. These books cover a wide variety of topics: realistic fiction, fantasy, biographies, motivational books, classics, and more. Students will choose one book from this list as their summer reading title; in the fall, the teacher will hold a book discussion with the group of students who signed up to read his/her book. Students will also choose from several creative assignments to complete and turn in to their MC Reads teacher (details will be given to each student).
When will MC Reads be held?
MC Reads will take place Friday, August 9th, which is the third day of school. This year, students who turn in the best MC Reads assignment/artifact will have opportunities to win prizes such as: Kindle Fires, Barnes & Noble Gift Cards, and other prizes!!!
What should I read this summer?
Below you will find the list of the MC Reads choice books for 2013. Click on the links below to see the list of books divided by genre (nonfiction, mystery, dystopian, etc. are grouped together) or listed by the name of the teacher who will be reading the book/leading the book discussion.

Service Hours / Service Night
Mill Creek encourages students to volunteer within their community, region, country, and abroad. Everyone needs help once in a while. Someone might need your help. You might need help in some way in the future and a volunteer might be the one to come to your aid. Volunteering is often reciprocal. You give what you can and it often comes back to benefit you in a round-about, non-direct way. You might volunteer your time cleaning up a local park and a rural volunteer ambulance may rush to your aid after a crash on a back road.
School starts at 7:20
The tardy bell rings at 7:20. Students should be in their first period class at that time. Taking traffic and weather into account, plan on making certain that your Mill Creek student arrives at school by 7:00AM
Check Out
The last opportunity for a parent to check out a student is 1:30
