Senior FAQs
Mill Creek Senior Class 2013
Your Senior year and in particular, graduation, are special times in your lives. What follows are typical questions Seniors and parents have regarding Senior year activities, dues, volunteer options, and the answers to those questions.
When is graduation?
The seniors have voted and...
The unofficial Graduation date will be May 23, 8pm at Markham Field. The date will be until the board meets in March to approve the date and location.
ALL STUDENTS MUST BE CLEARED ACADEMICALLY BEFORE PARTICIPATION IN GRADUATION. A CAP AND GOWN IN HAND DOES NOT MEAN ACADEMIC ELIGIBILTY.
How much are Senior Dues and what are they used for?
Senior Dues are $100 until October 31st. After that date, $20 late fees will be added every 3 months. The fee pays for the graduation attire (cap, gown, stole, and tassel), all of which the students keep. In addition, the dues pay for the diploma, diploma cover, graduation program, the costs for graduation, locker strips (for locker decorations in the Spring), and other Senior activities (which will occure throughout the 2012- 2013 school year.)
When are Senior Dues collected?
Senior dues can be paid to a Balfour representative when they are on campus or on line at the web site below. Checks should be made out to BALFOUR.

Are Senior activities required?
Participation in the Senior Activities, the Senior Breakfast, Graduation, and all other senior activities is optional; however, the overwhelming majority of seniors choose to participate in all of these events. We want very much for each Senior to participate. In order to take part in these activities, all fees must be paid.
Is there anything that is NOT covered by the Senior Dues?
Senior Dues do not coverthe cost of graduation announcements, the Senior Breakfast, memorabilia, the yearbook, Senior shirts, senior portraits of the Prom. The cost of videos and photos taken at graduation or any othe Senior class events are not covered as well.
When will caps and gowns be ordered and delivered?
The cap and gown is ordered when the Senior Dues are paid. All graduates will wear cardinal caps and gowns with navy blue stoles; the tassels will be cardinal, navy blue and gold. The caps and gowns will be delivered in April 2013.
When is graduation and how many tickets will we get?
Due to the size of the class, each graduating Senior will recieve 10 tickets for the ceremony whether it is in the stadium or the Gwinnett Arena. All patrons who attend the ceremony, regardless of age, must have a ticket (fire code). There will be no extra tickets given out.
When is graduation practice?
Graduation Practice will be announced after the Seniors vote. Graduates will march in and out, practice receiving their diploma, and we will correct pronunciation of names. Graduation Practice is mandatory if you plan to march in graduation. If you do not practice, you do not march! More information regarding Graduation will be mailed to you in the Spring.
When do I order graduation announcements?
Seniors will have a class meeting with Balfour October 17, 2012 to discuss graduation announcements and memorabilia (memory books, class mugs, etc.) A packet that includes a sample order form and the official order form will be given to each senior during this meeting. Seniors not present for this meeting will need to pick up a packet in the front office. The official order form is to be filled out completely before ordering. Make checks payable to Balfour. We will have Parent Night at MCHS in October for parents to come in and order announcements. Balfour will also be here during all lunches to accept orders. The deadline for ordering is in February 8, 2013. Orders placed after the due date will have $15 late fee and there will be a limited number available to order.
Note: The actual announcements are not personalized. If you order announcements, you will also need to order name cards to insert in the announcement in order to personalize your invitation. As will your diploma, you should use your complete, formal name on cards. Please remember that these are announcements and NOT invitations. You must order and pay for these in order to receive any! Reminder: The deadline for ordering announcements is in February 8, 2013.
Graduation announcements will be delivered after Spring Break.
My child is not at Mill Creek for part of the day (due to attending Maxwell, Grayson, Work Study or Joint Enrollment.) How can they find out what announcements they are missing?
It is the responsibility of the student to find out what announcements regarding Seniors were made during the day. General announcements are made during ACT class. Ms. Alexandar in the theater is the official contact for Maxwell/Grayson students. Joint Enrollment students can contact Ms. Alexandar as well. Seniors can keep updated by checking the Senior News on the school website at www.millcreekhighschool.org.
Can Seniors exempt Fall Exams?
No. Seniors may only exempt exams in the Spring Semester provided they have met the appropriate requirements. (Please refer to the agend book for these requirements.)
As a parent/guardian of a MCHS Senior, how can I volunteer to work on a committee or lead a committee?
Please email Mrs. Jody Gross at jody_gross@gwinnett.k12.ga.us. In addition, please respond if it is ok to give your email to other parents who may want to head a committee.
If I have other questions that were not listed - how can I get the answer?
Please feel free to email Mrs. Gross at any time during the school year.
