Grading Scale / Promotion Policy

0-69

INCOMPLETES will not be given. If a student has missed an assignment due to an excused absence, the grade of zero will be averaged in the place of that grade until the student makes up the work within a prescribed length of time. All pre-assigned work will be due on the day of a student’s return from an absence. Students will be given five (5) days to make up work or follow other arrangements granted by the teacher. Incomplete work carried over into a new grading period due to extenuating circumstances should be completed no later than the tenth day of the following semester.



PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS: 
(For students entering 9th grade in 2008-2009; each class with a grade earned of 70 or above will count as 0.5 credits)

For promotion to 10th grade: 5 credits including no less than: 0.5 unit of core Language Arts, 0.5 unit of core Mathematics, 0.5 unit of core Science.

For promotion to 11th grade: 11 credits including no less than: 1.5 units of core Language Arts, 1.5 units of core Mathematics, 1.5 units of core Science, 0.5 unit of core Social Studies.

For promotion to 12th grade: 17 credits including no less than: 2.5 units of core Language Arts, 2.5 units of core Mathematics, 2.5 units of core Science, 1.5 units of core Social Studies.

Requirements for Graduation: 23 credits including no less than: 4 units of core Language Arts, 4 units of core Mathematics, 4 units of core Science, 3 units of core Social Studies*, 3 units of Modern/Classical Language &/or Technical Education &/or Fine Arts*, 1 unit Health & Physical Education.
    
*For admission to a University System of Georgia college or university, students are required to
       
pass specific courses in each academic area, including two units of the same Modern or
       Classical 
Language.  Core academic courses, both required and elective, are included in 
       calculation of the HOPE GPA for HOPE Scholarship eligibility.
 
Passing the Georgia High School Graduation Tests is a graduation requirement.  Passing the 10th grade Gateway is a graduation requirement for students who entered 9th grade in 1998 and subsequent years.


LATE WORK POLICY:

It is the expectation of the Mill Creek Faculty that students will turn in assigned work ON TIME.

LATE WORK DEFINITION:

Late work is defined as any work turned in after a designated due date, excluding excused absences. 

LATE WORK POLICY (effective January 2012):

Mill Creek High School students who do not turn in assigned work on the day it is due will have one additional day to turn in the assignment at a grade reduction of 20%.  The highest grade a student can make on late work is an 80%.

*Teachers have the discretion to give the student a comparable alternative assignment if on the day the assignment is due, a class discussion reveals the answers/themes/ideas for the work assigned.
